  The Biden administration has unveiled a $ 5 billion plan over five years to build thousands of electric vehicle charging stations.

  The nationwide network of electric vehicle charging stations puts new or refurbished stations every 50 miles (80 km) along interstate highways as part of an administration plan to promote widespread adoption of zero-emissions cars.

  Under the Department of Transportation’s requirements, states must submit plans to the federal government and begin construction this year if they first focus on highway routes rather than neighbourhoods and shopping centres that allow people to take their electric vehicles far.

  Each station must have at least four fast-charger ports, which allow drivers to fully recharge their vehicles in about an hour.
