$ 5,000 SONDORS Metacyclic Electric is in durability test before delivery.

With the upcoming distributions of SONDORS Metacyclic Electric Motorcycle, the company is sharing new details on how the bike can withstand the rigours of life as a daily commuter bike.

SONDORS Metacicycl

The SONDORS Metacicycle is still the most anticipated electric motorcycle of the year.  Not because it’s the fastest or longest electric motorcycle on the road – it’s far from both – but because of the extreme value it offers.

Unlike powerful and exciting electric motorcycles such as the Zero SR / F and LiveWire One, the SONDORS Metacyclic Electric Motorcycle has more muted specs.

It has a maximum speed of 80 mph (130 km / h) and a maximum range of 80 miles (130 km) per charge.

It does not win the Metacycle any race or distance record, but the $ 5,000 sticker price is less than a quarter the price of other major electric motorcycles.

That makes Metacycles the first highway-capable electric motorcycle in the US to reach the masses at affordable prices.

SONDRS was originally expected to deliver the first bike by the end of 2021 but announced several months ago that production is continuing ahead of schedule.  This led the company to increase delivery estimates for Q3 this year.

We are now looking at the accelerated durability test that Metacycl is currently undergoing to validate its lifespan on the road.

 According to SONDORS:

โ€œWith our commitment to exceptional quality, we will never stop going the extra mile and Metacycle has shown to be a real overestimation.

Thatโ€™s why Metacycl is undergoing a continuous โ€œaccelerated durability testโ€ – a motor and controller that drives 9,000 problem-free miles a day, accurately simulating the hours and hours of real-world driving.

This type of testing is common in the motorcycle industry, and it uses a variety of methods to simulate accelerated wear, such as operating at high speeds, using high temperatures, and in more rigorous testing environments.

SONDORS claims that Metacycl’s drivetrain has now increased testing to 300,000 miles (510,000 km) without any major problems.

The battery has undergone 1,000 successful charge and discharge cycles.

Metacyclic uses approximately 50 lb (23 kg) removable battery with 4 kWh capacity.  A second auxiliary battery measuring 3 kWh is an accessory provided to fill an open hole in the frame’s “tank” area.  The other two optional tools are a public Phase 2 Charger for use in public charging stations or a storage compartment.

The clock is ticking as SONDORS continues to test bikes ahead of deliveries.  We will soon see if they do it in time.

 SONDORS Q3

With SONDORS still promising an estimated delivery time frame of Q3 2021, it looks like it’s coming to the wire.  We haven’t heard any news about the bikes being ready for delivery, but the company still has six weeks before the end of Q3.

Truth be told, I would be more surprised if they actually met those deadlines.  That is nothing in particular against SONDORS.  The company used a pre-sales approach that is unique in the electric bicycle industry, where SONDORS started.  However, with current industry pressures causing delays across the board, the standard operating procedure has evolved to take full pre-orders, promise a delivery date, and then lose it for a couple months.  This is happening to many key players, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see it here again.

If Metasicycles gets in the Sondors garages over the next six weeks, that’s fine.  But I’m now no longer going to wager the farm on it.  Even so, the company has had five years of successfully delivering e-bikes under its belt, so I don’t worry about them getting out of pre-order, like somebody’s deposit or fly-by-night operation.
