NIO rolls out first ET5 validation prototypes from assembly line, moving to enter Danish market by 2022

The ET5 EV is the second sedan from NIO, following the ET7, which opened for Chinese orders in January.  ET5 was officially unveiled at the automaker’s annual NIO Day event last December.

Chinese EV automaker NIO recently shared images of its upcoming ET5 sedan with the production line review prototype, which recently rolled out its facility in Hefei.  ET5 arrives in China early this fall, though it should eventually see other markets.  One of those markets could be Denmark, which NIO intends to sell its EVs in several new countries starting 2022.

According to NIO at the time, the ET5 was designed with autonomous driving in mind, starting with its silhouette based on the ET7 and incorporating autonomous driving sensors in its body lines.

NIO’s ET5 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h (0-62 mph) in 4.3 seconds, and its CLTC range is 550+ km (342 mi) with a 75 kWh standard range battery, 100 plus 700 km (435 mi) kWh long range battery,  And 1,000 km (620 mi) with a 150 kWh ultra-long range battery.

In addition to unveiling ET5 and its specifications on NIO Day, automakers have shared news for a global expansion.  NIO first entered the European market in Norway in 2021 with its ES8 SUV.  It later shared the news that it would enter the German market and both countries will see ET7 when it finally launches distribution.

In addition, NIO has shared plans to enter 25 countries and territories by 2025, revealing additional motives for selling EVs in the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark in 2022.

With its latest update, NIO is on track with ET5 production and is preparing for a sale in Denmark later this year.

NIO offers ET5 product and European market updates

NIO shared news on its ET5 production progress through its Weibo page, along with two pictures of EVs in their assembly line.  According to Chinese automakers, ET5 production is “progressing in an orderly fashion.”

As of now, we know that NIO ET5 is scheduled to be delivered to customers in China in September, but delivery to European markets is less clear at this time.  With ET7 confirmed in Norway and Germany, it makes sense to follow a smaller, more affordable ET5, but it has not yet been confirmed.

Speaking of European markets, NIO will soon be selling its EVs in Denmark, whether ET5 is included or not.  According to a recent news release from De Danske Bilimportรธrer, the Danish Car Importers Association, NIO is officially a member.  The Association represents all vehicle manufacturers, their vehicles and their technologies stored in Denmark.

NIO’s new entry as a member is further substantiation of its expansion into the Danish request later this time.

NIO has not yet revealed which EV models will arrive in Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands, but the automaker is taking the necessary steps to meet its expansion targets across Europe.
