NIU’s fastest and most powerful electric scooter still arriving in Europe.

The new MQi GT EVO is one of the best in its class period.  Featuring a large, solid frame, but with a relatively light weight of only 128kg, the 5 kW (6.7 hp) motor, the EVO to accelerate to 100km / h, easily competing with any 125cc moped on the market

New NIU MQiGT EVO

When NIU unveiled its new MQiGT EVO electric scooter at the 2021 EICMA Milan Motorcycle Show last November, I was lucky enough to be in the first row.  Now that a major smart electric scooter company has begun distributing in Europe, other markets are soon set to adopt a faster and more powerful electric scooter.

NIU MQiGT EVO electric scooter has hit the road in Europe, one of NIU’s major overseas markets.

According to the company, it is said that not only North America but other international markets, including Israel and the rest of the world, will receive the new EVO scooter in the next few weeks..

I took delivery of my own NIU electric scooter from a Tel Aviv dealership, where NIU’s models are popular with travellers and distributors in the market.  Food delivery riders can be seen silently roaming NIU scooters all over the city on demand.

The NIU MQi GT EVO may look similar to some of NIU’s earlier models, but it hides a lot of new features under the hood.

Not the least impressive of them are the new performance specifications.

The scooter top is said to be 100 km / h (62 mph), which is still NIU’s fastest e-scooter.

That new top speed is made possible by a more powerful motor.  The 5 kW (6.7 hp) motor actually peaks at 6.5 kW (8.7 hp) and claims that the company “can compete with any 125cc moped, petrol or electric in the market without effort.”

NIU MQiGT EVO Electric Scooter

After the unveiling last November I had the opportunity to do some hot laps on the scooter and I can tell you that it really flies off the line.  This is significantly faster than my own NQ GT extended range scooter.

There is no gas-powered 125cc scooter that will be able to adjust when the light turns green.

It is currently the fastest model in NIU’s lineup, though it can be removed from the throne after NIU releases the RQi Electric Motorcycle later this year.

The NIU MQiGT EVO not only has a new motor and higher speeds, but also comes with several other new parts.

Fourth generation NIU batteries have been upgraded to 72V.  With two 26Ah packs under the seat, the scooter is capable of 3.7 kWh.  This is sufficient for a range of 75 km (47 miles).  NIU says they can be rechargeable within five hours.

The 128 kg (282 lb) EVO can carry a huge payload of up to 275 kg (606 lb), meaning any two riders or some serious cargo is in the bike’s wheelhouse.

The new full-colour LCD screen is incredibly detailed and allows riders to customise the display to their liking.

The scooter features a new third-generation Hollow headlight that is said to provide wider, safer and more efficient lighting.  It features daytime running lights and 360 ยฐ illumination features that enable the scooter to see day and night.

Front and rear hydraulic brakes help with regenerative braking to help recover some of the energy normally lost during braking.

Currently riding my NIU NQiGT Pro as my daily driver, and I find that most of my stops can be done with regenerative braking, which makes my ride even more effective.

EVO of course includes NIU’s built-in wireless connection to track the scooter through GPS at all times, send alerts to the owner’s phone during any unauthorised access or theft attempt, and monitor key points of the scooter for diagnostic tests.  Scooter needs service.

In Europe, EVO costs โ‚ฌ 4,999 (approximately US $ 5,500).
